Plastic hanging baskets

The increasing premium that homes today are subject to has seen the arrival of a number of things that have made modern living somewhat of a compromise of sorts. Smaller bathrooms, smaller bedrooms, much smaller kitchens – all have lead to the the modern day life becoming a far cry from the old days when the American Dream meant something. These are the realities of life and there is little that you can do to change them, except move to a farm and that really isn’t an option is it?

There are however many things you can do to mitigate the claustrophobia that has become endemic to our society. One of the easiest ways to feel the cool breeze and the easy freedom that large open spaces bring is to get an apartment or home with balconies of some sort. That or an open patio will do you a lot of good. And what better than using modern space saving gadgets like plastic baskets and hanging baskets to give your balcony that dash of green!

hanging baskets for your patioNot only will hanging plants make your patio look a lot more soothing to the eye, they also add a living element to your home which goes a long way in making your balcony seem more hospitable. While there is truly a large variety of baskets that are available for sale both offline and in brick and mortar home stores across the corner, you’ll find that a lot can be accomplished with plastic hanging baskets alone.

Unlike the wire one these don’t rust a month after you bought them. But you got stainless steel ones you say? Well once you’ve taken the trouble of planting soil and seed in there do you really want to risk all of that going to waste just in case you drop the basket? The wire will bend out of shape and you carefully placed embellishments will be, for lack of better rhetoric, destroyed.

plastic hanging basketsAs someone who has used wooden and terra-cotta (mud) baskets, don’t even get me started on those. No matter how well the label says the wood’s been treated, it always tends to swell up and gets misshapen after a couple of weeks of constant watering. As far as the terra-cotta ones go,they are the most usable of the two and the rustic look does go pretty well with interiors of a certain kind but if you live in a mildly damp environment you will have to work at keeping the basket free from mold and fern that grown naturally on top of it.

So like I said when I started this article, plastic hanging baskets are the best and the only solution out there if you are looking to get a maintainence free setup done.
